Anthony A. Houston, Ed.D., is president of the CommonSpirit Health Arizona Market. With more than 25 years of experience in health care leadership, Dr. Houston has a deep understanding of acute care hospitals, as well as expertise in finance, facility planning, physician practice performance, mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Houston also has a proven track record of driving organizational success and delivering high-quality care.

Before joining CommonSpirit’s Arizona Market, Dr. Houston served as market president of CHI Saint Joseph Health in Kentucky. He has also held key leadership roles including president and chief operating officer of CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and President of CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Dr. Houston’s diverse leadership experience spans across multiple health care settings, allowing him to drive operational excellence and strategic growth.

Dr. Houston’s earlier career includes key roles in health care consulting, where he worked at Fitch Ratings as a senior director in the Healthcare Ratings Group and at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a senior associate in health care provider planning. He began his administrative career at the University of Chicago, managing cardiothoracic surgery and transplant services.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Houston holds a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University, a Master of Health Services Administration from Xavier University, and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Cincinnati. He is board certified in healthcare management and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

Dr. Houston’s expertise and leadership continue to drive meaningful improvements in health care delivery, positioning the CommonSpirit Arizona Market as a leading provider of patient-centered care.

Dr. Houston has been married for more than 24 years and has two adult daughters. He enjoys exploring new destinations in the United States and internationally with his family, as well as teaching, researching new leadership models, golfing, and hiking.
